Benzodiazepines - Effects & Side Effects

If you are having some anxiety problems, then Benzodiazepines may just be right for you. Benzodiazepines (BZs) are really effective in alleviating symptoms of anxiety.

They are also a viable choice because their effectiveness is visible in no time, and they do actually have generics that are available for all.

There is also no overdose in Benzodiazepines, you can take them as a single dose therapy or take them a number of times a day good for months or at times even for years.

The Side Effects of Benzodiazepines

Though Benzodiazepines were actually already proven to be really effective as what aforementioned, they also still have some side effects that you also must pay some attention with.

Basically, the side effects of Benzodiazepines normally target your psychological and physical state. In fact, there are a lot of side effects related to such. Psychologically, taking Benzodiazepines can induce your sleepiness, torpor and relaxation. Actually these are all both unwanted and wanted effects. Wanted if these happen at night otherwise unwanted if these take place during the day for generalized or panic anxiety.

While in terms of your physical well-being on the other hand, when you take Benzodiazepines, you might more or less experience dizziness, dysarthria, ataxia, rash, gain in body weight, impairment of sexual function, menstrual irregularities, and, occasionally, blood dyscrasias.

If you are pregnant, Benzodiazepines might impede the progress of child-birth most especially when taken excessively. Similarly, mothers who are taking Benzodiazepines can’t supposedly breast-feed their baby as small amounts of Benzodiazepines can be secreted in the breast-milk.

Dependence and Abuse

Studies show that patients on high doses of Benzodiazepines are more apt to be physically dependent and may suffer severe withdrawal including fits or a psychotic disorder if the medication is stopped suddenly. Normally, these people will then show drug-seeking behaviour and so eventually would become psychologically dependent too.

Likewise, studies also show that patients in both high and low doses tend to abuse the use of Benzodiazepines that instead use Benzodiazepines to serve as a medication actually use them in some other purposes or sometimes even worser – become a source for some drug addiction.

Thus, in the event, you might find yourself dependent on Benzodiazepines or otherwise already abusing the said drug, always consult your doctor right away. Never wait for things become worser. If you can act immediately, then do it. After all, it’s for your own good.

I’ve suffered from severe anxiety for my whole life. I’m 31 and have been to many doctors, psycs, etc.. Only my first doctor, after trying every antidepression drug out there, finally put me on antianxiety meds. First Klonopin, but that didn’t last long enough.

Then Xanax, which for me was a godsend. It seemed like it was made for me. After a couple years on it I decided to get off it just to see how I was feeling. In the mean time my doc retired and since then NO ONE will even think about putting me back on it.

I was put on Ativan but you may as well put me on a sugar pill and the doc looks at me like I’m looking for drugs. It actually costs more WITH insurance than what I can get it for online. I’d rather have shock therapy or a lobotomy to make this go away.

Why is the word “Xanax” so taboo?
The only productive years I’ve had were when I was on it. I never would have gotten off of it if I knew I never would get back on. Plus the internet says it’s the most commonly prescribed antianxiety out there. Why is a med legal if no one will prescribe it.

I went to Egypt a few years ago and I could get it OVER THE COUNTER. Figure that one out.
